LOVE the mid century styling on these Mad Men briefcases! This one features ultra handsome houndstooth fabric lining in a stunningly black and white retro pattern. Just gorgeous. If you were able to look very, very closely at the case, you would see that several of the silver metal hardware pieces are labeled with the "ATCO" logo and circle in a fabulous mid century cursive font, and "Newark NJ." Although some of the metal is a bit pitted with age, the art deco shape of the hinges and the raised chrome piece where the handle is joined sturdily to the case are wonderful retro touches and still in quite excellent condition. And notice the unusual "picture frame" style to the outside top and bottom of the hard shell "faux leather" texturized plastic case? It has an amazing indented style in three dimensions that really adds to the beauty of the case and is probably indicative of the retro automobile design of the times. Even the smooth black handle has some extra indented retro detail to the inside handle edge, which adds texture, interest, and probably helps you grip the handle a bit better, too.
We are constantly on the hunt for and truly love these mad men briefcases so have seen many over the years, but have never been lucky enough to find one with an interior SO HANDSOME that was in such "like new" shape as this one is! Perhaps it only suffered light duty in its former life - either that, or it was just extremely well taken care of. Even the still quite shiny exterior has only a few signs of age with a bit of metal oxidation, scratches, and one small (1/2") corner ding that shouldn't affect function and isn't terribly noticeable, although remember this is a vintage, pre-loved briefcase, so some wear is to be expected.
LOVE the retro styling on these Mad Men briefcases! The hard-sided plastic clamshell exterior is ultra sturdy and has a shiny, black nubby texture to it: very handsome! It has only very minor scratches and scuffs from use but hardly noticeable; do please remember that this is vintage so will not be in perfect condition as if it were new. This super cool case opens by flipping up the chrome latches and closes by simply closing the lid and then pushing the latches back down again. Really, it's one of the simplest opening and closing designs we've seen on a mid century vintage briefcase and would be perfect for anyone who doesn't like to waste time fiddling with more complicated closures. This briefcase just SHOUTS, "No nonsense!"
