The case: I chose the briefcase because I saw a few other members post their DIY eyepiece cases made out of old briefcases. I like that it not only stores eyepieces, but also has space to put a star atlas or other books. Also, it has a bit more character than your average case. Briefcases are definitely not as popular these days. I'd been scouting out a local goodwill but all they've had was old computer bags. I finally stumbled across a briefcase at a thrift shop while on vacation this summer. From $5, not a bad deal.

As for latches, the 2 old briefcases I have way better hardware than appears on most EP cases I have seen these days, so it depends on the case you choose for this.
This old briefcase by Louis Vuitton is believed to date from the 1940s. It was purchased in Paris and bears the ocean liner ticket, "Compagnie Generale Transatlantique French Line First Class" as well as the initials at the handle of "MT".
